Pencils, soap, needles and thread, quilts…these ordinary things become extraordinary when they are assembled into LWR Parish Projects and shared as gifts of love and comfort.
Show the love of Christ to people all around the world by being a voice for the voiceless and advocating for justice in the world. Protect the dignity of others by buying Fair Trade coffee, chocolate and other products. Educate your fellow parish members about LWR’s innovative, long-term solutions to world hunger and poverty.
Listen for God’s call to put your faith into action. Look for new ways to share your gifts. Pray for God’s guidance in selecting the projects and activities that open your heart and mind to a broader understanding of doing justice, loving mercy and walking humbly with our God.
The LWR Fair Trade Coffee Project ensures that more of the money you spend on coffee reaches the farmers who actually grow it. Fair trade coffee is a simple solution that means the difference—quite literally—between surviving and not surviving for small-scale coffee farmers.

LWR Chocolate Project
To support the Fair Trade cocoa farmers of Kuapa Kokoo in Ghana, Lutheran World Relief became an owner of Divine Chocolate — the first farmer-owned brand of chocolate in the world. In Ghana, 20,000 cocoa farmers united to form Kuapa Kokoo, a democratically operated cooperative that gives them stronger representation in the cocoa market. When the cooperative sells its crop to Fair Trade buyers, the farmers receive a fair price. Also, the cooperative receives a Fair Trade premium that is invested in the farming communities—to build wells, fund schools, and provide mobile medical clinics and other benefits.
By choosing Fair Trade chocolate for fundraisers, gifts, or to enjoy personally, Lutherans ensure that cocoa farmers earn the income they need to feed their families, educate their children, seek medical care and improve their communities.
